Match Report: Godalming Vs Boro

Farnborough win 2-1 away from home.

A first half header in the 35th minute from Kezie Ibe and a second half penalty on the hour mark from Dean McDonald gave Farnborough their second win in a row. Godalming town mounted a comeback late into the second half and were rewarded with a a well finished goal from striker Richard Shittu. The home team were denied a late equaliser by Jean-Zephirin who's penalty save allowed Boro to leave Wey Court with the victory.

Godalming opted to open the game lining up in a 4-3-3 formation that was easily exploited by the Farnborough team. Lazy defending and poor tracking back from Godalming's strikers and midfielders allowed starting full-backs Nic Ciardini and Sacha Opinel to bomb forward and join the threatening Boro attack. Ciardini nearly got on the score sheet as early as four minutes into the game when his cross from the left flank avoided all the bodies in the box and the ball nearly sneaked into the bottom right hand corner. Sacha was also successful in his advances into the oppositions half linking well with the forward players.

The first goal came from the left hand side when one of Owen Price's many crosses from the flank was met by Kezie Ibe in the centre of the box who guided the ball to hit the inside of the right hand post and roll into the goal. Price found space throughout the game staying close to the touchlines on both sides of the field. His deliveries were constantly outstanding and it was justice to his performance that he was rewarded with an assist.

Andre McCollin was the closest to doubling the lead for Boro with an incredible individual effort late on in the first half. Picking the ball up wide left on the half way line, Andre proceeded to ride tackle after tackle, storming through both the midfield and defence of Godalming. The crowd were in awe of how far the young winger progressed down the field and into the box with such speed. McCollin's shot was saved and put wide at the near post denying him and the crowd the chance of seeing a spectacular goal.

The first half went by successfully for the Boro defence as Goldalming were held to zero shots on goal in the first half.

The introduction of McDonald and Bubb in the 50th minute saw more chances being created by the Farnborough strike force. Jack King had a great chance on goal in the 57th minute when he latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from McDonald. King couldn't control the shot though and the ball went well wide.

Bubb was the winner of the penalty on the hour mark. During a mazing run Bubb was hacked down by not one but two Godalming defenders struggling to keep up with his pace. After McDonalds penalty miss on Friday night the pressure was on for the striker to finish. Dean confidently put the ball to the right of the keeper who dived the wrong way.

Richard Shittu of Godalming was a overpowering presence through out the game and bagged a goal for the home team in the 70th minute. A skillful kick feint from the forward sent Jean-Zephirin to the ground early and Shittu slotted the ball into the goal with ease as the keeper attempted to scramble back to his feet.

Daryl McMahon won a free kick on the edge of the box after he was dragged down after a trademark run from the midfield. McMahon came close to converting the free kick himself; his accurate left footed strike however was parried wide for a corner by the Godalming Town keeper.

In the 76th minute Shittu won a penalty after Adam Doyle and Craig Braham-Barrett failed to deal with his threat early and the striker went down easily after making minimal contact with Braham-Barrett's stuck out leg. Jean-Zephirin saved the penalty to his left and Craig made up for his mistake clearing the loose ball up field and allowing the Boro defence to regroup.

Bubb continued to threaten till the close of the game with but unfortunately was unable to repeat his clinical finishing from Friday nights game.

The full time whistle blew and Boro secured a 2-1 away victory.
