Boro’ back to winning ways

Farnborough bounced back from their midweek exit from the FA Cup with a 3-2 victory against Frome Town in an entertaining encounter.
The game began with both sides struggling to keep possession, and not much action took place in the opening 25 minutes, with Boro’ having one good opportunity from inside the box, but the effort was saved by Frome goalkeeper James Carey.
In the 30th minute, however, Boro’ opened the scoring. Luke Robertson spotted Michael Fernandes who took the ball and unleashed a strike from the edge of the box that came off the left post of the Frome goal and into the back of the net. Farnborough 1-0 Frome Town.
The game then settled down again, with the next piece of action coming in the 43rd minute. Boro’s Connor Calcutt capitalised on an error from the Frome defence and he found Fernandes in the exact position where he scored his first goal, but this time his effort was just wide of the post.
Boro’ went into half-time leading 1-0.
HALF TIME: Farnborough 1-0 Frome Town
At the beginning of the second half, Frome began to pressure Boro’ with a lot of crosses into the box and didn’t let the defence clear their lines, and in the 49th minute, Frome drew level. Another cross was put into the Boro’ box and Marcus Mapstone headed it in from close range. Farnborough 1-1 Frome Town.
Boro’ took back the lead three minutes later after some great passing between Robertson and Fernandes on the edge of the box it resulted with Fernandes being played through on goal and he put the ball past Carey in the Frome goal from inside the box to give the lead back to the home side. Farnborough 2-1 Frome Town.
The lead was further extended in the 75th minute after a brilliant move by Boro’ saw the ball fall to Brendan Murphy-McVey inside the box, who finished it brilliantly with the outside of his foot to beat Carey in the Frome goal. Farnborough 3-1 Frome Town.
Three minutes later, Frome pulled one goal back. Substitute Ryan Bath was picked out in the box and he striked it past James Stroud in the Boro’ goal to set up a nervy final 12 minutes plus stoppage time for Boro’. Farnborough 3-2 Frome Town.
Boro’ held strong and had a great chance to make it four in the 92nd minute when Kurtis Cumberbatch and Perry Coles linked together with Coles’ effort from inside the box just wide of the Frome goal.
That was the last piece of the action and it saw Boro’ pick up all three points and take a much needed victory.
