Boro’ sunk by rock bottom
By Erick Jupp
Boro’ suffered their second defeat in a week as the squad was narrowly beaten by Chesham United 1-0.
Boro’ came into this game looking to bounce back from the heavy defeat at the hands of Poole Town last weekend and the game started off pretty quiet, with the first piece of action coming in the 16th minute, when Michael Fernandes put in a dangerous ball into the Chesham box, however, no one was at the end of it to meet it.
A minute later, Boro’ had a good chance when Andrew Sealey-Harris skilfully made his way into the box and got a shot off, but his effort was saved by Alex Tokarczyk in the Chesham goal.
In the 27th minute, Chesham opened the scoring. Bradley Clayton edged Bradley Simms to a loose ball near Boro’s corner flag, he drove into the box and was tackled, the ball then fell to Oran Swales, who nodded it into the Boro’ goal. Farnborough 0-1 Chesham United.
Boro’ looked for a response quickly and nearly had one three minutes later when Brendan Murphy-McVey had a shot inside the Chesham box, but was denied by Tokarczyk, keeping Chesham’s lead.
The remaining 15 minutes of the half saw little action and the game headed into the break with the visitors in the lead.
HALF TIME: Farnborough 0-1 Chesham United
The second half got underway and Boro’ were out to get an equaliser and nearly had one two minutes into the half, when Sealey-Harris played a delightful switch pass across the field to Fernandes, who shrugged off his man and had an effort on goal, but Tokarczyk denied him with a good save.
In the 65th minute, Boro’ needed a great sliding interception from CJ Fearn to stop Clayton from being through on goal for Chesham.
Three minutes later, Chesham had a good chance to double their lead. Swales’ shot from outside of the box went just wide of the Boro’ goal.
Boro’ had a great opportunity to bring the score back level in the 74th minute when Sealey-Harris drove through the middle of the field and picked out substitute Connor Cullen, who looked very lively when he came on the pitch, on the wing, his cross into the box found Connor Calcutt, with his first effort on goal blocked by a Chesham defender, and the ball fell back to him, however, on the second attempt he lost his footing on the wet pitch and the ball went out for a goal kick for Chesham.
Seven minutes later, Calcutt was in the middle of the action again and nearly found the equaliser that Boro’ needed. Boro’s corner was punched away by Tokarczyk, but didn’t get good contact with the ball due to his position on the goal line and the players around him, the ball fell to Calcutt from about 8 yards out, who in heavy traffic, striked it from close range, only to see the ball come off the woodwork. The score remained 1-0 to Chesham.
In the 85th minute, Sam Mason in the Boro’ goal was called upon to tip a shot from Clayton over the bar and was then off his line to catch the resulting corner.
Boro’’tried to create some chances late on but Chesham held strong to take the victory at full time.
