Goalless stalemate at The Hillgrounds Stadium
Farnborough battled out a goalless stalemate with sixth placed Kempston Rovers on a night which saw Royston Town crowned the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Champions.
Due to a combination of injuries and unavailability’s, Manager Spencer Day had to work with a bare 13 man squad and matters were made worse when striker Pat Cox sustained a head injury in the opening minutes and sported a head bandage for the remainder of the game.
Macrae recieved the first caution of the game for a late tackle on Cureton to stop a Farnborough attack.
On the half hour mark a Newman header inside the box from a Heneghan cross from the left was destined for the net but Farnborough goalkeeper Zaki Oualah pulled off an outstanding diving save to keep the scores level.
The dangerous Heneghan had far too much time and space on the edge of the box from a corner but the Kempston Rovers man bent a right-footed shot just wide.
At the other end, Cureton got in behind the Kempston Rovers defence and into the box but his cross was put behind.
Farnborough looked to mount an attack when Cureton had possession just outside the Kempston Rovers box and his through ball out towards Coles was stopped by the hand of Lyon but neither the Referee or the Linesman gave a free-kick.
Fearn made a crucial header at the back post to defend a teasing Henegham cross from the left.
Overall, Kempston Rovers just shaded the half with more chances but couldn’t make them count, with Oualah having to remain alert to keep out the ball after a clearance from close range ricocheted off Macrae just before Half Time.
HALF TIME: Kempston Rovers 0-0 Farnborough
Farnborough’s best chance of the game arrived in the 51st minute as Ciardini pulled a low cross from the left to the onrushing Donnelly whose drive was parried away by Conway who dived low to his left.
In the 62nd minute, a loose clearance fell to Cureton from distance whose right-footed volley drifted just wide, with Conway rooted to the spot.
Huggins headed over the bar from a Ciardini cross from the right and Simpson headed over at the back post from a corner at the other end of the Stadium.
Farnborough had big appeals for a Penalty turned down by the Referee three minutes from time after a Kempston Rovers played seemed to control the ball with his hand inside the box.
