Farnborough triumph in hard-fought win

Persistent poor weather having prevailed for a while this was the first action for either side in a couple of weeks. A great effort by an army of volunteers ensured the game went ahead on a heavy pitch.

The visitors were into their stride from the start and played some neat football which put Boro’ under early pressure.

Munday’s header found the side netting before Bufton tipped over another effort from the same player. The Boro’ keeper made two good blocks before Sam Pearce cleared another effort off the line.

Chalfont St Peter kept the pressure on and following another good save from Aaron Bufton
Alex Paine headed home from close in on 18 minutes. Farnborough 0-1 Chalfont St Peter.

Boro’ had a better spell but were only able to force a string of corners

Again Bufton did well to keep out a header from Pinks at the cost of another corner.

Jack Barton replaced John Oyenuga after 33 minutes and then Munday was injured and Maguire took his place in the 35th mimute.

Pearce came close with a header and Smith was booked just before the break.

HALF TIME: Farnborough 0-1 Chalfont St Peter

The visitors bossed most of the opening 45 minutes and deserved their lead which, in truth, could well have been greater.

Boro’ began the second period in a much more lively fashion and Eddie Smith flicked home the equaliser after just three minutes. Farnborough 1-1 Chalfont St Peter.

The visitors suddenly realised they had a game on as Boro’ continued to enjoy more possession and pressed forward at every opportunity.

Fate lent a hand after 58 minutes when, following a rather rash tackle on Curtis Osano, Ryan Wharton was shown a straight Red. On many days it might have been just Yellow, but the visitors were faced with seeing out the remaining time with ten men.

Kofi Lockhart-Adams was replaced by Oluwole Akinsanya on 63 minutes.

Pressing forward again, Boro’ went ahead when Eddie Smith met a long cross from Sam Pearce and snatched his second of the afternoon on 71 minutes. Farnborough 2-1 Chalfont St Peter.

Perry Coles came close to a third but the ball ran away from him as he broke through on goal. This led to a sustained period of pressure which saw Boro’ strike the woodwork twice in quick succession.

Both sides made changes on 79 minutes: Ismail Ehui replacing Josh Kelly for Chalfont St Peter and Perry Coles making way for Sam Shaban.

Boro’ wrapped up the points with nine minutes left when Sam Pearce heading firmly home from a good cross on 81 minutes. Farnborough 3-1 Chalfont St Peter.

The remaining time plus three added minutes saw Boro’ playing sensibly to preserve their lead.

Dennis Oli made way for Jordan Goater with 5 minutes left.

FULL TIME: Farnborough 3-1 Chalfont St Peter

Very much a game of contrasting halves with the visitors well on top in the first 45 minutes and Boro’ grateful to Aaron Bufton who made a string of good saves to keep the gap at a single goal.

The second period saw a much more determined Boro’ produce a fighting display worthy of taking the points.

Yes, they had the advantage of playing for more than thirty minutes against a side reduced to ten men, but even so went about their task calmly and surely and took no chances. Well done to all.

Come on you Yellooowsaa!!
