Marlow edge out Farnborough in a close game

Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges of the game with Farnborough having to make-do without duo, Curtis Osano and Charlie Allen who were both unavailable.

Eleven minutes into the game, a Poulton free-kick from distance dropped wide of Bufton’s goal.

Barton worked a short corner with Ciardini and the latters cross was just missed by the oncoming Fearn and the Marlow keeper, Grant collected the ball.

Marlow looked to hit Farnborough on the counter attack as Mealing burst down the right before finding Brown on the edge of the box but the Marlow number 10 dragged a left-footed shot comfortably wide.

Farnborough were enjoying the majority of possession but couldn’t make it count.

After Welch received the ball on the edge of the Farnborough box he lofted a shot high and wide of Bufton’s goal.

Huggins set Oli on an attack down the left and the Farnborough striker cut inside and found Barton who dragged a lot shot wide.

Oli set Oyenuga free down the right and despite being tugged onto by Osei-Tutu, the Farnborough man did well to put in a low cross which found Coles whose left-footed shot bobbled wide.

Yet again it was Oli who was looking lively as he drove into the Marlow box, picked up the rebound after his initial shot hit Kilman and had a strike from a tight angle held by Grant at his near post.

At the other end Marlow Captain, Ovenden had a low shot from inside the box palmed away by Bufton and out for a corner.

After turning away from Kilman, Huggins drove forwards from distance and had a low left-footed shot held by Grant.

After Huggins won his side back possession in midfield, Hayden shrugged off challenges from Poulton and Brown before driving forwards and lashing a right-footed shot high and wide of Grant’s goal.

Fearn was adjudged to have fouled Marlow striker Mealing a few yards outside the Farnborough box and was booked for the challenge.

Marcus Mealing dusted himself down and bent a right-footed free-kick into the bottom-left corner to give Marlow a single-goal lead on 75 minutes. Marlow 1-0 Farnborough.

Minutes later, an incredible Fearn clearance on the goal-line prevented Marlow from doubling their lead after Bufton was lobbed on the edge of his box.

Farnborough continued to probe with lots of possession in the opposition half but were thwarted by either the Marlow defence or the offside flag.

Oli and Ciardini combined inside the Marlow box in desperate search of an equaliser but the latters effort was blocked by Richards.
