It’s another must-win game at The Rushmoor Community Stadium this Saturday as Farnborough host 17th placed Merstham in the Ryman League Premier Division, kick off 3pm.

Farnborough Camp

Following an 18th League defeat of the Season, Farnborough have it all to do and remain in 21st place in the Ryman League Premier Division, with 23rd placed Brentwood Town having 3 games in hand.

Spencer Day’s side were dealt another blow in midweek as VCD Athletic moved to within a point of Boro’ with a 3-0 victory at Needham Market.

Last weekend, Farnborough lost 1-3 at Grays Athletic, despite taking an early lead through new striker Kevin Krans.

While the score was locked at 1-1, Boro’s Joshua Gallagher was sent off on the stroke of half time and the hosts went on to record a hard-fought win.

New signings Melvin Minter (Hendon), Josh Gallagher (Leatherhead), Kevin Krans (St Albans – dual registration) and George Jeacock (Oxford United – loan) all made their debuts in last weekends defeat.

Boro’ also bolstered their defence this week with the loan signings of Jack Smith (Eastleigh), Gosport Borough Captain Sam Pearce and the returning Perry Ryan.

Speaking to GetHampshire after last Saturdays defeat, Manager Spencer Day said: “I was very proud of the lads because we were robbed by the one person who the stadium who saw a red card and a penalty.

“It was just one those days for us but if we continue to show that level of performance and attitude away from home then the results will come.”

Opposition Camp

Opponents Merstham, are managed by Hayden Bird and occupy 17th place in the Ryman League Premier Division, with 36 points from 31 games.

Last time Merstham were in League action, Bird’s side comfortably beat Staines Town 5-1 on Home turf, courtesy of goals from Tutu Henriques, Calum Willock, Tom Kavanagh, Phil Page and Kershaney Samuels.

Saturdays visitors also have former Farnborough Captain, Phil Page and winger Arron Hopkinson in their ranks.

Speaking after last weekends victory, Manager Hayden Bird told Surrey Mirror: “The second half of the season is about putting into place the lessons learned in the first half.

“The team is constantly learning and improving, and we are playing well at the moment so hopefully we will be able to go on an unbeaten run.

“I think there are a couple of things we have learned but it’s mainly about cutting out individual mistakes, taking your chances and not switching off when defending set-plays.

“Also, I think you can make mistakes in the Ryman South and they won’t always be punished, but in the Premier, that isn’t the case. Teams will punish you.”

Bird added: “It was an excellent performance. The team played well and continued the form they scored against Grays Athletic. Off the ball, it was probably the best we have been for a while.

“Staines only scored from a late penalty, and when you consider that last season they were a Conference South side while Merstham were a Ryman South side, that is impressive.

“One of the lessons we have learned at this level is that it doesn’t matter who you are playing, whether it’s top of the league or bottom, if you don’t play well, you’ll lose.

“I’m sure it will be a difficult game at Farnborough and they will be looking to pick up points but we will want to maintain the gap. “I wouldn’t say we are expecting to win, but we go there confident we could win.

Merstham last time out (vs Staines Town): Josh Smith (gk), Michael Abnett, Isaac Nehemie, Antone Douglas, Tutu Henriques, Kershaney Samuels, Ellis Brown, Tom Kavanagh, Calum Willock, Fabio Saraiva (Caot), Reece Hall, Aaron Rhule, Phil Page, Arron Hopkinson, Charlie Penny and Troy Williams.
