Farnborough blown away in Kent, as VCD Athletic are lifted of bottom spot

VCD Athletic got the game underway with the wind behind them and it didn’t take long for the hosts to create their first chance.

Farnborough keeper, Aaron Bufton denied Richie Graham with a smart stop, before Davidson Tejaiye fired the rebound over the bar from 15 yards.

A relentless number of Bufton’s goal kicks were carried back by the swirling winds as Farnborough struggled to get out of their half.

On 22 minutes, a loose pass on the edge of the Farnborough box fell to Richie Graham whose low first-time strike beat Bufton at his near post. VCD Athletic 1-0 Farnborough.

13 minutes later, Menga wind-assisted pass forwards found Donovan Simmonds who got in behind the Farnborough defence and slotted past Bufton from close range. VCD Athletic 2-0 Farnborough.

As the wind died down a little, Moody drew a good save from Bubb after the Farnborough midfielder cut inside and shot from 18 yards.

HALF TIME: VCD Athletic 2-0 Farnborough

At Half Time both sides made changes as Farnborough replaced defensive duo Gary MacDonald and Darryl Siaw with Nicholas Brown and Lewis Collins and VCD Athletic brought Aaron Wickham on in place of Kojo Awotwi.

After a Collins shot was blocked at one end of the pitch, VCD Athletic missed a great opportunity to extend their lead at the other end.

The Vickers first attack of the Second Half presented Simmonds with a glorious opportunity from close range but he shot into the ground and the ball bounced on to Bufton’s crossbar and substitute, Wickham blazed the rebound over.

Young Academy striker, Josh Francis replaced the hard-working Marcus Moody for Farnborough on 67 minutes.

Farnborough pulled a goal back on 81 minutes through Bogdan Vastsuk, as the Reading loanee latched onto a clever flick-on by Brown and calmed finished past Budd from inside the box. VCD Athletic 2-1 Farnborough.

The momentum was all with Farnborough, and minutes from kick-off VCD Athetic centre-back, Bruce was shown a yellow card for stopping a through-ball with a clear handball just outside the box.

The Yellows went in search of a late equaliser but it was too little too late at a windswept Oakwood.
