In what is arguably their biggest game of the season so far, Spencer Day’s Farnborough side take on North Ferriby United at Paddy Power Park in an all important FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round Proper tie.

A second half winner from current top scorer Louie Theophanous booked Farnborough’s place in the 3rd Round Proper in a 2nd Round Proper Replay at Paddy Power Park eleven days ago.

Farnborough have overcome Sholing, Weston-Super-Mare and Maidenhead United so far to make it to this stage and will be looking to go one further this weekend.

During the week, Reece Beckles returned to the squad on a months loan from Woking, while also extending defender Matt Jones’ loan spell for the same amount of time.

Speaking to GetHampshire ahead of the game, Manager Spencer Day said: “It’s a huge game for us, in every way. I’ve seen videos of North Ferriby and got some reports on them and they’re probably the biggest side I think I’ve ever seen.

“They’ve got a 6’8 striker, two huge centre-backs and are full of men – all experienced performers and described as ‘brutal’ by one of our contacts.

“Let’s be honest, that’s not normally a good thing for us but we know what we are coming up against and I don’t want us coming off the pitch complaining about it being men against boys.

“We’re going to need to roll our sleeves up, but if we do and play the way we know we can play then it’s a very winnable tie.

“We are, however, going to need to sit down and take a look at the squad and explore the different options we have available. We may have one or two new arrivals, so that will give us extra cover but there’s no room for error.”

Farnborough players celebrate making it into the last 16 of the FA Trophy

Visitors North Ferriby compete in the Vanarama Conference North and are in 9th place in the division and hunting down a play-off position.

A win for The Villagers will take them in to the last eight of the Trophy for the second consecutive year.

Last Saturday, North Ferriby needed a second half revival to earn a point in a 2-2 League draw at Stalybridge Celtic.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash, North Ferriby Manager Billy Heath told “We are looking forward to the game. We obviously know very little about Farnborough and they know little about us.

“We will not be fooled by their league position; cup competitions are always a set of one-off games and league positions go out of the window.

As usual, we will concentrate on our own performance and not our opponents. As always, we take each game as it comes.”
