Just one win away from an end of season trip to Fratton Park, this Tuesday Farnborough take on Gosport Borough in the Hampshire Senior Cup Semi Finals. Kick off 7:45pm.
Farnborough have made it to the Hampshire Senior Cup, sponsored by BSA Regal, Semi Finals and are just one win away from booking a place at this year’s final, with Sholing, AFC Bournemouth and Tuesday’s opposition Gosport Borough still currently left in the competition.
Farnborough received an exemption into the second round of this seasons Hampshire Senior Cup and then beat Cowes Sport 2-0 in the 2nd Round. Spencer Day’s side then overcame Petersfield Town 7-1 in the last 16 to make it into the Quarter Finals.
Spencer Day’s side continued their impressive run in this seasons competition and a 2-0 victory over Whitchurch United in January sent Farnborough through to the Semi Finals.
With Manager Spencer Day unable to field loan players for this competition, the hosts will be without goalkeeping duo Marek Rodák (gk) and Dillon Barnes (gk), defenders Freddie Grant and Michael Richens and midfielder Ghassimu Sow.
Dan Bennett netted his fifth goal in just three games at the weekend
Visitors Gosport Borough rose up to 4th place in the Vanarama Conference South with 3 points from Spencer Day’s side last time out courtesy of goals from Dan Wooden and top-scorer Justin Bennett.
Gosport Borough themselves are in a good run in this competition and overcame Winchester City 5-2 in the Quarter Finals to make it to this stage.
Speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 victory, Manager Alex Pike told Portsmouth News: “I had a go at them at half-time. I felt the urgency and intensity never appeared until we went 1-0 down and that’s not acceptable.
“I think a few things needed saying and some people need a kick up the backside sometimes.
“You have to be careful how you do it and you can’t do it all the time because it doesn’t have the impact but it had the desired effect this time.
“It would have been worse if we hadn’t got the equaliser. It was a great finish from Woody and it was his right foot – I didn’t know he even had one!
“But I knew we were capable of coming out and winning the game in the second half. Once we got the early goal, I don’t think we looked back.
Pike added: “We weren’t at our best but I don’t care how pretty it looks as long as we get the three points.”
Gosport Borough from: Nathan Ashmore (gk), Andy Forbes, Rory Williams, Mike Carter, Andy Robinson, Sam Pearce, Thomas Dunford, Danny Smith, Matt Paterson, Justin Bennett, Dan Wooden, Steven Walker, Lee Wort, Paco Saez Adam Wilde and Lewis Blackmore.
