In their penultimate game of 2014, Farnborough welcome Maidenhead United to Paddy Power Park this Saturday in the Vanarama Conference South.
Farnborough return to Vanarama Conference South action this Saturday, heading into the game still in 18th place also knowing that three points this weekend could see them rise to as high as 16th place.
Speaking after Saturday’s 3-1 FA Trophy win at Weston-Super-Mare, Manager Spencer Day told News & Mail: “It was a thoroughly deserved win and it’s great to be back to winning ways.
“We were completely dominant, except for two moments in the first half, and we protected our lead relatively comfortably.”
Farnborough boss Spencer Day also told BBC Surrey: “We started very brightly and showed the character of the side; we had that bit of bad luck and thoroughly deserved to be leading at half time and we got a little bit of luck with the third [goal], there’s no doubt – it was a keepers error.
“But I thought we defended so much better today after a bad week of defensive performances. We thoroughly deserved to win the game and I’m delighted, particularly for the small travelling band of supporters who’ve done such a long trip again this week.”
Midfielder Aaron Dawson has returned to his parent club Exeter City after his loan expired – the Club would like to thank Aaron for his contribution to the team and wish him good luck for the future.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ashley West has also joined Isthmian League Division One South side Walton Casuals on dual registration.
Farnborough scored three times last time out in a win at Weston-Super-Mare
Johnson Hippolyte’s 14th place Maidenhead United side come into Saturday’s game off the back of a 2-1 FA Trophy victory at home to Poole Town.
Speaking to the Maidenhead Advertiser after his sides victory over Poole Town last Saturday, The Magpies boss Johnson Hippolyte said: “I said at half-time that if we believed, we would score in the second half and go on to win it.
“I believed it, I’m not sure if they did, but fair play to them we got there in the end. We know confidence is important and they’re confidence is very high at the moment. They are used to winning.
“We have been a little bit down recently so had to dig deep. At the start of the second half we had to ride our luck, they hit the crossbar and Will [Britt] had to save two or three, but I think we shaded it over 90 minutes.”
Also giving his thoughts on the upcoming FA Trophy Second Round Proper tie, in which Maidenhead United will host Farnborough on 10 January 2015, Hippolyte said: “I’ll take that draw and I honestly believe that if they turn up and we turn up then we’ll go through because we’re more than good enough to win the game.
“It could have been a lot worse because there are some big Conference sides still left in the competition.”
The Magpies current leading goalscorer is former Farnborough favourite Dave Tarpey who has nine goals to his name heading into this weekends clash.
Saturday’s visitors will also have well known forward DJ Campbell in their side. The 33-year-old forward, who appeared in the Premier League for Birmingham City, QPR and Blackpool, joined Hippolyte’s men towards the start of October 2014.
