Farnborough announced the agreement with Leyton Orient of the loan signing of goalkeeper Charlie Grainger yesterday and farnboroughfc.co.uk caught up with the young shot stopper for some exclusive reaction.

Charlie was signed by the O’s from Norwich in 2009 and is the son of former Birmingham City left-back Martin Grainger. A graduate of the Orient Under 18s side, Charlie recently signed a professional contract with The O’s and has featured on the bench for the first team a number of times in the last two seasons, whilst he also made his debut for England U18s earlier this year.

FFC: Hello Charlie and welcome to Farnborough FC. What is your reaction to signing and how has pre season gone for you so far?

Grainger: I’m very please about signing for Farnborough! They’re a good young side and this is the next step for me to keep on progressing. Pre-season this year has been tough with the training at Orient! But the playing the games every week I’m enjoying because we’re a good side. [It was] Also nice to get two wins on the bounce! Coming back from two defeats! The lads make you feel welcome also which makes me feel comfortable in the clubs environment.

FFC: What are your aims/hopes for the upcoming season?

Grainger: To be performing to my best as much as I can and for us to finish as high as we can! And yes to go on a good cup run, the cup games for small teams are always important as the club gets money the further they go! It’s exciting for the fans and it’s also a buzz for the players that get to compete in the cup games.

FFC: What are your thoughts going in to the final two pre-season games, at Walton & Hersham (tomorrow) followed by the visit of Leyton Orient which are your parent club, so you must be looking forward to the games?

Grainger: [I am] Looking forward to both games and hopefully we can continue our winning streak. Both games are going to be a test which we need going into the start of the season next week! And yes [I am] looking forward to playing against my own club, it will be strange playing against the people I train with everyday! But will be a game that will be a tough test and one that I’m going to enjoy playing in.

FFC: Do you have you a message to Farnborough fans for the season?

Grainger: My message for the fans would be – it’s going to be a great season so make sure you come down in your numbers to support and get behind the team. We will do our best for you to enjoy yourself watching us play and getting results.

A massive thank you to Charlie for his time and we wish him good luck as he continues his development as a footballer with Farnborough. You can also follow Charlie on Twitter @CharlieGrainger, and view his player profile here: Charlie Grainger.
