New signing Arron Hopkinson gives his first interview as a Farnborough player having completed his move for the season from Ryman Premier League side Bognor Regis Town.

Hopkinson, who scored 6 goals from out wide whilst at The Rooks last season, was identified by Farnborough manager Spencer Day as a key target as he looked to reshape his attacking options.

He told shortly after putting pen to paper how he was feeling after joining Farnborough, “Moving to Farnborough is a good move for me personally it’s a big club at this level which I feel has the potential to move up the divisions. Leaving Bognor was a tough decision for me as the coaching staff and fans were great. I learnt a lot with my time at Bognor and can’t thank the club enough for the season I had with them.

“However when the opportunity to move up a division come along then it was too good to turn down. I met with Leigh [Dynan] and Smarty [Allan Smart] and they sold the club to me they have big aspirations for the club and I’m lucky to be a part of that plan.”

The pacey winger added, “The stadium is great, probably the best in the division so it’s a great place to come and play my football. I had various other offers but once I met with Leigh it felt right that I should come to play my football here for next year.

“I know there have been a few problems with the club in the past couple of seasons however I believe that the club is on the straight and narrow now and is ready to progress. I want to be at a club with ambition and Farnborough certainly has that. I have played against Joe Benjamin (Benji) a few times now so it will be interesting playing alongside him this season!”

The 21-year-old discussed how the move came about and what he will bring to the team, “I had a call that Farnborough were interested and wanted to meet me I spoke to Leigh and met the management at the ground. Farnborough is a big name in non league and hopefully I can help to get the club to where the management and fans wants it to be!

“I’d like to think I can bring an excitement factor to the club. I’m a positive player always looking to get at the full back and provide for the front men. I’m quick and skillful so hopefully everyone will get the chance to see what I’m about.

As well as aiming to help Farnborough to win as many games as possible, Hopkinson revelaed some personal targets, “I’d like to think that with the squad the management are assembling together we can challenge for the play offs and a good Cup run also is always nice! My aim is to play as many games as possible and stay injury free, I’d like to chip in with a few goals but I like setting them up I had 24 [assists] in total last year so to get near that would be a big achievement for me!”

Despite interest from other clubs, Hopkinson jumped at the opportunity to join Farnborough and is keen to enjoy his football, “I’d like to think so [that I can play at a higher level], I had a bit of interest from league clubs last year and I ended up spending a week with Chesterfield, they’ve invited me back pre-season, but I just want to get my head down work hard and enjoy my football at any level I’m playing.”

Finally, Arron has a message for the Farnborough fans, encouraging fans to get behind the team, “Get behind the boys as it does help a lot! Fans can make the difference sometimes! Hopefully we can play attracting football to entertain you all, whilst picking up a lot of points along the way.”
