Farnborough Assistant Manager Leigh Dynan gives us his views 9 days into pre-season.
The fixtures are out for the season ahead and Farnborough will start with an away game as they visit Boreham Wood on Saturday 9th August and the season concludes on Saturday 25th April when they will welcome Concord Rangers to Paddy Power Park.
Hi Leigh, thank you for chatting to farnboroughfc.co.uk. Firstly what is your reaction following the release of the Fixtures?
“Well the first game away at Boreham Wood is a hard one to kick off with. Concord Rangers were the surprise package for me last year. They were a strong physical team and I could see that Danny Cowley had them working hard for him, but it’s always harder in your second season after promotion but I’m sure they’ll give us a hard test when they come to Cherrywood Road.”
What are the aims for the season from the management side of things?
“Well to be honest budget wise our aim is to stay in the league which I’m confident that we will do, hopefully we can go on a good cup run. It will be a difficult league this year as there’s a lot of teams that are paying big wages, but that doesn’t always mean success as we’ve seen in the past.”
How is player recruitment coming along so far?
“Player recruitment is coming along well, we have a few targets that we are pursuing and I’m confident that come the 9th August we’ll have a good team that the Farnborough faithful we be happy to support at the stadium on match day.”
How has pre-season gone so far and what is your reaction to the most recent pre-season outing – a 4-2 win over Sandhurst Town?
“We only started pre-season on the 28th June so it’s early days but so far so good. We have been impressed with a few players that we have brought in.
Sandhurst was good to get the boys some minutes into them. We saw some good things in the match but you can never read too much into these games as pre-season is just about getting the squad ready for 9th August.”
Previewing Farnborough’s next Friendly fixture at home to Oxford United this Saturday, Dynan admitted that The U’s will prove a ‘difficult game’, adding, “Oxford this Saturday will be a very difficult game as they have just installed Michael Appleton as their new manager. I am sure all Oxford players will be looking to impress their new gaffer.”
Finally, Dynan has a message for the Farnborough fans, adding, “The club needs your support. We feel that we are moving in the right direction as a club away from the pitch, your support will enable us to move in the right direction on the pitch.
Farnborough has great supporters and it is a great place to be on match day. I hope they are all looking forward to the season ahead as much as me!”
A massive thank you to Leigh for his time and we wish Leigh and the team all the best for the 2014-15 Conference South season ahead. You can also view his staff profile here: Leigh Dynan.
