‘Boro gave a good account of themselves against title chasing Welling United, despite going down to a 2-0 defeat.
The home team entered the match unbeaten in nine at home, it was always going to be a tough encounter for the visitors, but in typical ‘Boro fashion the took the game to the hosts with high intensity play which dominated proceedings for much of the first half.
‘Boro proved a constant threat down the left hand side with Treacher and Ciardini linking up well, but despite creating a number of openings, reluctance to shoot hampered the visitors.
Dan Bennett forced the save of the half from home keeper Sam Mott when his rasping drive form 20 yards fizzed through a crowded box, only for Mott to get down sharply to his left to palm away.
Despite being in control of the match, it was Welling who took the lead five minutes before the break.
A free kick from the right was met by Ben Martin whose shot cum cross was prodded home by Acheampong.
Welling started brighter in the second period, although ‘Boro more than matched their hosts, albeit not at the same tempo as shown in the first 45 minutes
On 65 minutes a loose pass from Ciardni was picked up on by Obersteller and with Welling on the counter the ball fell to in form Lafayette, who finished with class from distance curling the ball past the outstretched grasp of Worner into the top left hand corner.
Welling showed their title credentials as the closed out the game, despite the introduction by ‘Boro of Tarpey and Hammond.
‘Boro can take heart out of the performance as they prepare to take on Eastbourne Borough at Cherrywood Road this coming weekend.
