‘Boro opened up their 2013/14 Pre Season campaign with a 3-2 victory of a competitive Highmoor Ibis side at Bisley on Saturday.
With a number of trialists in the line up, it was two familiar names found themselves on the score sheet as ‘Boro opened up a 3-1 half time lead, Dan Bennett who had hit the woodwork in the opening minutes pulling ‘Boro level having gone behind in the opening ten minutes.
Reece Connolly pulled ‘Boro ahead from the penalty spot before trialist Tyrone Berry scored the goal of the game to give ‘Boro a two goal cushion going in at the break.
Wholesale changes at half time saw a number of trialists given the opportunity, and Highmoor pulled one back in the final ten minutes of the game.
‘Boro boss Spencer Day commented “This was an excellent test for us first time out this season, played in extreme conditions even with the 11am kick off on a very dry pitch. With the exception of a few players it was almost two different teams for each half, and I was delighted in the conditions of some of the cohesive football we played especially in the first 45 minutes when we had a number of last season’s squad on show. We fell into playing in a similar vein to how we ended last season, and although the game did get a little disjointed in the second period I was pleased to come away with the victory and more so with the way we played.”
‘Boro take on Wycombe Wanderers at Cherrywood Road on Wednesday (July 17th), kick off at 7.30pm
