‘Boro enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory over Hayes & Yeading at Cherrywood Road on Saturday 16th Feb.
‘Boro eased to a comfortable win against manager less Hayes & Yeading with a controlled and professional display.
The home side took control from the first whistle and set about pinning the visitors on the back foot and forcing a number of corners within the first 5 minutes, but some committed defending by one of ‘Boro’s old players Adam Bygrave denied first Reece Connolly then Dan Bennett. But with only 9 minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken when a long range shot by right back Josh Huggins was deflected past the helpless Brandon Hall into the right top corner. (1-0)
‘Boro were in total control of the game and looking comfortable were shell shocked when against the run of play Tom Collins was gifted a soft goal when the ball somehow fell to his feet on the edge of the box and unmarked rounded Jamie Norris to level the score. (1-1)
That goal was to be the only worthwhile effort in the game for the visitors as ‘Boro regained control of this game through man of the match Steve Laidler pulling the strings from midfield, Laidler was everywhere on the pitch and went close to restoring the lead with a shot sailing inches over the crossbar . Tom Donegan on loan from Premiership Fulham was a constant thorn in the side for Hayes with his quick feet and movement causing panic with every attack. ‘Boro regained the lead on 25 minutes when Dan Bennett controlled a sublime chip by Laidler and in one move he slotted the ball into the bottom of the goal. (2-1)
Reece Connolly added a third just before the half time when the live wire forward raced onto a pass from Josh Huggins and fired low and hard into the bottom left corner. (3-1)
Hayes changed 2 players at half time bringing on Sam Corcoran and Darryl Mclean in an attempt to find a way back into the game but with Laidler and Reece Jones controlling the midfield the visitors huffed and puffed but lacked any end product. ‘Boro introduced Alfred Bosch & Dave Tarpey into the game and it wasn’t long before Tarpey was in the thick of the action. Tarpey went close to adding a forth goal himself before and picking out Connolly with a inch perfect cross and Connolly kindly fired the ball home to kill any hopes of a comeback for the visitors.(4-1)
Tom Donegan nearly added a fifth when he raced on to the end of a sweeping move but his shot was high.
‘Boro face a tough game Tuesday night, away, against many favourites to win the league Welling UTD.
