‘Boro enjoyed their first victory of the pre season campaign against neighbours Fleet Town on Tuesday night.
After defeats against Wycombe Wanderers, Aldershot Town and AFC Totton, a second successive brace from new signing Dave Tarpey and a peach of a strike from trialist Jean-Michel Solbas was enough to see ‘Boro home.
In a half dominated by ‘Boro, it took til just before the break for Solbas to unleash a shot from fully thirty yards which nestled in the bottom left hand corner.
Fleet drew level on 61 minutes when some slack marking from a corner allowed the centre back a free header to even things up.
Dave Tarpey followed up from his two goal exploits at AFC Totton on Saturday with two fine goals in the last ten minutes to secure victory for ‘Boro.
Nic Ciardini made his first pre season outing for ‘Boro after picking up a niggly knee injury in pre season training, and came through a 30 minute work out with no after effects.
First team coach Koo Dumbuya commented “We were very pleased with the level of performance in the opening and closing twenty minutes of the match, there is still work to be done but we have seen things that are very positive and overall we are quite content with where we are at this stage of the pre season.”
‘Boro have a break this weekend, before taking on a Fulham XI at The Rushmoor Stadium on Tuesday (July 31st), kick off at 7.45pm, before travelling to Chertsey on Saturday 4th August.
