Wokingham & Embrook 2 Farnborough  9

An emphatic display away at Allied Counties Premier League rivals Wokingham & Embrook saw Farnborough’s Youth Team progress to the FA Cup First Round proper and the challenge of League 1 side Yeovil Town at home on the 7th November 2011.

Farnborough were by far the strongest side, from the outset the tempo of the game was set and Boro dominated possession. The work rate and discipline from the youngsters was beyond their years, going about their business in a very professional manner.

After only 5 minutes goal scoring opportunities were to be had, with Boro commanding all the possession. The game unfolded very quickly and after only 7 minutes Newby scored the opening goal. After that, it really was one way traffic and goals just flowed throughout the 90 minutes.

Goals by: Jamie Newby: 7, 19, 33, Jordan Merriman: 36, 58, 70, Callum Cobb:  85, Dan Collier: 55, Dan Kelly: 90

Wokingham & Embrook did not really threaten throughout the 90 minutes but were awarded 2 penalties for their endeavour.

First team manager Gary Haylock comented: “ I thought it was a great performance, particularly the two forwards Jordan Merryman and Jamie Newby, both netting a hat trick each.  I really am looking forward to watching all these boys against Yeovil, that will be a test for all the lads, and a good measure as to how far they have come”.

Aidan Whelan, youth team manager/coach said: “I thought we were magnificent tonight, we showed what we are capable of when we do the basics right, I thought all of the players had a great attitude for this game, and all of them worked very hard.

“I could not pick a specific player for MOM as I thought tonight we had 11 of them. I hope now we can build on this and take this performance into the Yeovil game.

“Yeovil will be a tough test, and I know they have been to watch us twice now, so they will know they have a game on their hands. We have assembled a fantastic squad this year, and it is probably the best I have ever worked with, and I hope that supporters will come along to the Yeovil game and all of the league games to cheer these young lads on.”
