‘Boro’s youngsters recorded an emphatic FA Youth Cup triumph on Monday night, thumping A.F.C. Wallingford 15-0.

The U18s were 7-0 up within the opening half hour, with boss Chris Palmer withdrawing Callum Cobb, Jordan Merriman and Kevin Asare-Addai after just 35 minutes.

Merriman – who has just signed his first senior deal with the club, at the tender age of just 16 – bagged himself a hat-trick, with the rest of the goals shared around.

There was one each for Billy Barnes, James Ashton, Asare-Addai, Elliott O’Sullivan and Sam de St. Croix. Scott Fitzsimmons came off the bench to bag a brace, with Jamie Newby netting an outstanding five goals to claim the plaudits.

The side now has a straight passage through to the second qualifying round, where they will take on the winners of the Reading Town v Newport Pagell Town or Ascot United tie.

Their scheduled opposition in the next round – Milton United – withdrew, thus giving Palmer’s team a week off. The second qualifying round is due to take place the week beginning Monday 3rd October ’11.

The stunning success follows on from Saturday’s 5-1 win for the first team over Tonbridge Angels, in which Tony Garrod announced himself with a brilliant hat-trick.
